Men's Team Clinches Top Spot
in their Division
After
defeating York on Thursday 4-3, the Blues continued their
success by beating Waterloo on Friday 4-3. The men's team
have earned a spot in next weekend's OUA Finals at Western.
The women's team also played their first regular season matches
against York. Unfortunately, the ladies lost by a score of
1:6. However, the score is not really indicative of how the
ladies performed on the court. The York team was indeed strong
but many of the matches were very close especially the doubles
matches. Both Mary
Martchouk and Karina
Avramenko lost two tight sets in singles play. Qiuyan
Tian pulled off yet another 3-setter comeback victory
in true Chewy-fashion. Martchouk
and Kristina
Dundas had a chance to play on centre court at the Tennis
Centre. If the ladies want to go to Western with the men's
team, they will need a victory against Waterloo on Sunday.
Play begins at 09:00 on Sunday at York University.
Since
some of the ladies cheered on the guys on Thursday at Mayfair
West, a few of the guys returned the favour and stopped by
the Tennis Centre at York after their matches to cheer on
the ladies. Both teams gathered for some food and beverages
at Boston Pizza afterwards (as pictured above).
